Associate Membership for Friends of ALCA NationwideAssociate membership of ALCA is now available to ABA counsellors and other health professionals who are not currently certified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
In 2003, ALCA members voted overwhelmingly to change ALCA's constitution and offer non-IBCLC's as Associates:
- enable increased access to ALCA's services and support to non IBCLCs;
- increase exposure of all health professionals to global/world breastfeeding trends and research;
- assist with political awareness and action; and
- help Australia to achieve its breastfeeding targets through improving Australia's breastfeeding knowledge base.
Associate members are people who are committed to ALCA's vision of promoting, protecting and supporting breastfeeding, whilst at the same time providing quality education to both health professionals and the public, nationwide.
As the National Professional Association for IBCLC qualified Lactation Consultants, ALCA also supports and promotes the professional of lactation consulting at every opportunity. We expect all Associate members, like members, to abide by the ILCA Code of Conduct and Ethics.
Associates are able to participate in all member activities, however, they do not have voting or nomination rights and cannot hold any official positions within the organisation.
